London’s burning! Year 2 recreate Great Fire of London

Year 2 recreate Great Fire of London - Gulf British Academy

Following on from a surprise visit from our very own Samuel Pepys and trips to the local fire station, our Great Fire of London theme continued today when pupils from Year 2 recreated their own version.

Teachers and their pupils headed to local grounds to set up their cardboard Tudor houses. In fact, more than 50 houses were carefully positioned close together to create narrow streets just like those in Pudding Lane back in 1666.

Pupils even requested that Thomas Farriner’s bakery be the first house to be set alight, mirroring the events which unfolded during that fateful night on 2 September.

A big thank you also goes out to our fireman from Kuwait’s Fire Service Directorate who was present at all times, not only to give a presentation about fire safety and precautions, but also to ensure that GBA’s Great Fire of London was carried out and put out safely.

The children had a wonderful time watching their houses go up in smoke. The speed at which the fire spread was impressive and certainly gave our Year 2 pupils a graphic understanding of the dangers and destructive nature of fire.
