GBA holds Science Fair 2018

Science Fair 2018 - Gulf British Academy

Following the success of last year’s Science and Maths Week, Gulf British Academy held its annual Science Fair today – one of its most enjoyable to date.

The day started at 7:30am with classes of eager children holding up bags and boxes containing ingredients and equipment for their contribution to the Science Fair.  The children knew they only had 20 minutes to get everything ready before their parents would be coming in.  The anticipation was palpable and tables overflowed with all kinds of unimaginable experiments set up to make their parents say “WOW!”

Mr. Mark stood at the hall entrance ready to open the doors. The buzz of excitement coming from outside could be felt and all pupils were full of nervous energy. The clock hands turned to the top of the hour and the lock on the door clicked open. Parents rushed in to see their children in action.

Parents were greeted with enthusiastic scientists all eager to mix their potions. Within minutes the room was filled with the aroma of baking soda and vinegar. Tubs, bottles and glasses soon began to fill and pour over onto the floor. Things buzzed and flashed with electricity whilst planets span around.  Dry ice produced an eerie atmosphere to go with the green slime.

Parents asked questions like, “Why does it do that?” and “How does that work?” to which the young scientists gave clear scientific answers.

Soon, it was time to finish but this was not the end of Science Fair 2018! It was tidy-up time. To the groans of the children, everything was packed away and the spillage cleaned up. Then it was back to class to finish the day’s lessons.

All in all, it was a very exciting day for the whole school. Everyone enjoyed taking part and are looking forward to Science Fair 2019.

This event could not go ahead without the support of our parents. We’d like to thank you for researching the types of experiments that your children could perform as well as buying the necessary resources and practising each experiment in preparation for today.
