Key Stage 1 visit Salmiya Fire Station

Fire Station KS1 trip - Gulf British Academy

As part of their topics this term (The Great Fire of London and People Who Help Us), Key Stage 1 visited the Fire Station in Salmiya to see how firemen protect us and put out fires.

Pupils in Year 2 have been learning all about The Great Fire of London (see last year’s recreation) and how modern firemen work differently to those in 1666.  It was a great opportunity to see first-hand what it’s like to be a fireman today.

In Year 1, pupils have been learning all about people who help us and how important those people are, such as doctors, policemen, firemen and paramedics.  The opportunity to meet real firemen was therefore very exciting and brought the topic to life.

They had a great time understanding the equipment the firemen use in order to help us.  This included exploring the fire engines, wearing protective clothing and even operating the water hoses.

So not only did the children thoroughly enjoy meeting the firemen they had been learning about, they also learnt important lessons about safety.

We would like to thank the firemen of Salmiya and Kuwait’s Fire Service Directorate for making this trip possible and giving our pupils a lifetime memory.
