Online Romans Day – Year 3 dress up

Roman Day Online - Year 3

“Romans, lend me your ears!” This was the cry from our Year 3 teachers as they addressed their troops of pupils at the start of the day. At just after 9am, a legion of Roman soldiers and citizens took over the online classrooms to take part in a Roman marching warm up activity.

This term, Year 3 has been studying the history of the Romans in Britain. As part of this, we decided to have an invasion of our own but remotely, to give the children an immersive and interactive experience. The pupils all dressed up as various Roman citizens in a wide range of colourful and appropriately themed outfits.

The curriculum was put on hold for the day and instead our pupils joined in with a range of exciting activities including creating their own Roman mosaics, solving a puzzle with Roman numerals and creating a Roman feast in the form of a turtle sandwich.

Many thanks go to our teachers, Mr Wilson, Ms Vickie, Ms Lindiwe and Ms Rachel, and a big thank you to Mr Taylor for coordinating the day.

After this experience both pupils and their parents have a new understanding of the importance of the Romans and how they have influenced our lives almost 2000 years later.
