Year 2 recreate houses in Great Fire of London

Year 2 Fire of London

In Year 2, we recently learnt about The Great Fire of London. The fire started in a bakery and spread quickly through the Tudor-era houses because they were so close together and made from wood with straw/tile roofs.

This historical topic gave our pupils the chance to work hard at home to build their own London house from the year 1666. They took into account that the houses looked very different to our houses now.

Pupils used the correct colours and patterns on the front of the houses and constructed them in an accurate way with a narrow foundation / ground floor which then widens as each floor is added to form the complete house.

Some families added real straw or thin brown paper to the roofs to create a realistic effect. Some pupils even added items from their home to the inside of the house to make it look more like real life.

Year 2 were extremely engaged in this topic and really expressed their fantastic creativity and art skills during this activity. Take a look at some of their work (it’s a big gallery so it may take a while to load).
