Shhh, we’re reading! Pupils celebrate World Book Day 2021

GBA World Book Day 2021

On 4th March 2021, pupils at Gulf British Academy celebrated the best of books all day to mark World Book Day 2021.

Children from KG to Year 7 have been delving into books by well-known authors from around the world. Each class embraced the celebration and used a wide range of texts to promote ‘reading for pleasure’. Staff and pupils also took this opportunity to dress up as some of their favourite characters (Matilda, Miss Trunchbull and Oliver Twist to name a few).

Even though children are learning remotely, the enthusiasm could not go unnoticed. Everyone was able to show off their reading skills, taking part in a recital linked to ‘The Poetry Project’. There were smiles all round, as children expressed their excitement for reading poems from Michael Rosen, Wilfred Owen and Miroslav Holub.

‘World Book Day’ is treasured because it is truly focused on improving children’s lives through literature. This year, we have worked hard to introduce high-quality books into the curriculum to ensure all children can experience different genres, styles and authors every single day.

There were many positive results to come from the day. Children spoke passionately about books to their parents. Parents were thankful to our staff for their hard work and dedication. Last but not least, everyone felt proud to be part of GBA and the love of literature we share together.
