Stone Age Day: A blast from the past for Year 3

Stone Age Day Year 3

Year 3 had a fantastic time during Stone Age Day — a History curriculum enrichment day that incorporated other subjects such as Art, Drama and Maths.

It was a chance for our pupils to dress up and live the day as pre-historic humans from a period spanning well over 3 million years and so-called because it was when humans began to make tools carved out of stone.

‘We don’t want this day to end! This is the best day of the year so far!’ – Class 3.4

So that as many activities as possible were experienced, classes were rotated around the school. These activities included making spears, stone-age tools and bone jewellery; creating a number system; modelling Stone Age houses from clay and painting cave art. In our theatre, pupils had great fun re-enacting moments in time that depicted fire-making, drawing cave art, and catching fish and other animals with spears.

It was a really engaging day for all of Year 3, with the aim of bringing the Stone Age to life and sparking the children’s curiosity whilst building upon their learning.
