Upper Key Stage 2

Upper Key Stage 2

Upper Key Stage 2 comprises Years 5 and 6 for pupils aged between nine-and-a-half and eleven-and-a-half years old. During this stage, children develop greater independence and build upon prior learning. This will equip them with the skills and knowledge to become life-long learners.

Welcome to Years 5 and 6

I am delighted to welcome you to Gulf British Academy as Head of Key Stage 2.

From Year 3 to Year 6 our children are on an amazing journey of discovery.  Our dedicated teachers are beside them all the way, guiding them as they move from early learners to mature students ready for their Secondary education.

In Key Stage 2 we provide all children with a rich and engaging curriculum and a warm and nurturing environment.  Our highly skilled and experienced teachers build lasting relationships with the children, getting to know each individual, in order to support them on their personal learning journey.

We value our partnership with parents and encourage communication and collaboration between home and school.  This provides a sense of security for our pupils and allows them to thrive in all areas of their lives.

Our children love school!  The best accolade for us is that the pupils come into school smiling and happy, eager to learn and building friendships that could last a lifetime. It is their energy and enthusiasm that makes KS2 buzz with the excitement of learning and life.

Mr J. Howard

Head of Key Stage 2

Year 5

During Year 5, we develop the formalised, independent focus needed to meet the demands of the next and final year of primary education. Furthermore, pupils should be able to work independently and research extra information to add to their class work. This year also builds upon the grammar focuses, mathematical and scientific concepts needed in the next year and beyond

Year 6

Year 6 is the final year of primary education and the year where all learning comes together. Learning is consolidated and pupils are prepared for secondary school. In order for the pupils to successfully complete the year, the previous year’s learning should be in place.

This year is one that looks to the future and not the past. Pupils must be able to develop their own learning, set individual targets and work independently. During this year, the pupils take formal SATs exams, which prepare them for their secondary school selection.
