Speculative Horizions Exhibition IGCSE Art

ART TRIP

Our IGCSE Year 10 Visual Art students had the unique opportunity to attend the Speculative Horizons exhibition on the 25th of January, 2024 at the Contemporary Art Platform in the Design District in Kuwait. They met with all the artists and curators involved, engaging in insightful discussions and asking probing questions. This experience allowed them to delve into curatorship, understand the artist’s approach to photography—particularly emphasizing composition in art—and grasp the significance of setting up final artwork within an exhibition space in collaboration with a curator in a gallery.

Speculative Horizons exhibition is a collaborative cross-cultural project initiated by artists, curators, and educators, utilizing lens-based mediums and research to foster connections through photography. Sponsored by the Japanese Embassy, the exhibition brought together artists from Australia, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

The exhibition highlighted the significance and value of art within cross-cultural relationships. Our students witnessed how through art we are encouraged to consider alternative perspectives and perceptions of our world.

The exhibition allowed our IGCSE students to engage directly with the artists, hearing firsthand about their work and creative processes, particularly within the medium of photography.
