GBA Pupil Chosen for Young Ambassador Programme

Mr Appleby, Head of English, had the pleasure of accompanying GBA’s Model United Nations Secretary General, Hamza Abulhassan, to the opening of the Young Ambassador Programme at UN House in Mishref on 13th December 2023.

Hamza and other Year 10 students at GBA, prepared a short video concerning Climate Action and Climate Action, major parts of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United nations. Hamza’s recording was of such high quality that he was one of only a handful of school students in Kuwait lucky enough to be accepted into this prestigious programme.

The Embassy of Canada, in collaboration with the the British Embassy, United Nations Resident Coordinator Office, UNDP and UNICEF have worked together to invite secondary students to partake in the “Young Ambassadors” initiative, which allows students to work with corresponding embassies. Through mentoring and leadership development over five months and exposure to diplomacy, the initiative provides students with an opportunity to share their ideas and initiatives to promote inclusion and empowerment in Kuwait and beyond.

The Young Ambassador Programme will provide Hamza with a wonderful networking opportunity where he will work collaboratively with other young ambassadors and his mentor, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the State of Kuwait, Malik Muhammad Farooq. Through meetings, presentations and briefings, Hamza will gain experience in diplomacy, and will learn skills to enable him to advocate on behalf of Kuwait’s youth as regards Climate Change, Climate Action and Climate Justice.
