Year 9 students visit to the Grand Mosque

Year 9 students visit to the Grand Mosque

As part of GBA’s drive to help build cultural capital and religious awareness, we arranged a special tour around the famous Grand Mosque of Kuwait for our Year 9 pupils. Cultural capital is the knowledge and understanding we deem necessary to function effectively and respectfully in society and the guided tour they received certainly worked to raise their awareness of the importance and significance of this historic building.

Located in the heart of Kuwait city, the Grand Mosque is the biggest mosque of Kuwait. The pupils were amazed by the dome of the mosque, which is an impressive 26 metres in diameter and 43 metres, and is decorated with the Asma al-Husna, the 99 names of God. Upon entering, the pupils were astounded to see the intricate and lavish nature of the inside of the mosque and in particular they were struck by the magnificence of gold leaf and saturated blues that adorned the walls.

During the guided tour, the pupils were also treated to a history lesson about the significance of the various features of a mosque such as the Minbar. They finished off their visit by taking part in a quiz show where the pupils got to demonstrate the knowledge they had gained during their visit. Some were even lucky enough to win some prizes! We are already looking forward to planning further visits in the future.
